BIG BACK GRIPS USER PROFILE INTERVIEW: PRESTON SEWELL
15-YEAR-OLD SPONSORED BODYBUILDER
Preston Sewell is 15 years old, the youngest bodybuilder BBG has interviewed and already a sponsored athlete, sponsored by Sault Area Wrestling and byour Dealer Chris Byrd at his supplement store North Kansas City. We met Preston through Facebook after he saw profiles for his buddies JJ Schelling and Mike Boyechko. He was already in love with the Big Back weight lifting grips that his sponsor provided and we asked if we do a profile on him as well.
BBG: Can you fill us on your background a bit: what you do, where you go to school, where you’re from…anything you want us to know, anything that puts you in context for people.
Preston: I am a fairly laid back guy who loves bodybuilding and fitness. I have grown up mostly in Tennessee and Georgia. I am fairly young, so i don’t have much of a career yet. I am currently a sophomore at LFO high school.
Interview Questions
BBG: Now, you’re 15 years old, which makes you the youngest lifter on our profile page. And still an impressive physique. How long have you been serious about working out? How did you get into it?
Preston: I started messing around with weights when i was 13, but I really didn’t start training for bodybuilding until i was 14. My dad was an amateur bodybuilder back in the day and he motivated me to get into it and see what I could do.
BBG: How did you come across Big Back Lifting Grips?
Preston: My friend and sponsor Chris Byrd sent me my first pair, and let me tell you I was blown away by how much of a difference they make!!
BBG: For your own workouts, what did you use before BBGs and why did you settle on Big Backs. How do they help your workout?
BBG: I had always used lifting straps before and I hated them. They were very uncomfortable and made my hands torn with calluses. When I first used your weight lifting grips I was amazed at how comfortable and natural they felt. All I had to do was grip the weight and move it, no messing with straps or repositioning every few seconds. They really make a difference.
BBG: Where do you work out?
BBG: I work out at Wave Fitness in Fort Oglethorpe, GA. It is an old school, hard-core, serious gym. Similiar to Metroflex or Powerhouse. It is definitely the best gym i have trained at so far.
BBG: Did you play or excel at any sports?
Preston: I did play football for a while, but it wasn’t for me. Plus now i can put all my focus into developing my physique.
BBG: What are your main goals in bodybuilding?
Preston: Short term is to win the 2014 NPC Teen Nationals and become successful as a teen. Long term goals are to be Mr. Olympia and to develop my body to its full potential!!
BBG: What about goals unrelated to bodybuilding?
Preston: I am really interested in pursuing a career in the medical field.

BBG: What are your biggest accomplishments in your workout history so far? : Titles, personal goals achieved, etc.
Preston: Definitely becoming a sponsored athlete at a young age, most people have to wait until they are much older. Also I am just thankful that i am able to go to the gym and bust my ass every day.
BBG: What is your competitive history? Do you have any shows coming up?
Preston: I will be competing in my first competition the NPC Orlando Europa in April where I plan on taking the teen and novice overall.
BBG: Good luck. What is your workout schedule like?
Preston: Here is what it has been lately:
- Monday: Back
- Tuesday: Chest
- Wednesday: Hamstrings and Calves
- Thursday: Shoulders
- Friday: Arms
- Saturday: Quads and Calves
BBG: What about your diet?
Preston: I try to get about 6-7 good meals a day. The whole day is about 300 grams of protein and 500 grams of carbs.
BBG: What are your favorite exercises or body parts to work? What do you consider your best body part? Do have a body part that’s especially challenging to make headway on?
Preston: I love training them all!! My best body part is definitely my shoulders or my legs. I can really push those farther than the others. My weakest is probably my arms. They don’t have much of a peak on them, so i have to work extremely hard to make them look big.
BBG: If someone were going to work out with you, what are they in for, what’s your workout style? What would you want from a partner?
Preston: They better bring their A-game!!! My workouts are extremly intense and I tend to use a lot of volume. l like a training partner that doesn’t complain and has no problems with balls-to-the-walls style training.

BBG: Is there a workout that really stands out from the rest? A particularly amazing workout where you ended going further than you ever had?
Preston: All my workouts are insane, but my back and leg workouts are really where i push myself past the breaking point.
BBG: What’s your advice to people just starting out?
Preston: Don’t be afraid of free weights!!! I see a lot of guys my age or sometimes even younger who will only use machines and their gains are limited. A lot of them are scared that the bigger guys will laugh at them, but what they don’t realize is that most of the bigs are to busy paying attention to themselves.
BBG: Finally, can you give us your workout for just one body part: back or legs, shoulders, chest or arms, even abs. Just pick your favorites.
Preston: Here is a sample back workout:
- Lat pulldowns: 4 sets
- Cable rows: 4 sets
- Dumbell rows: 4 sets
- T-bar rows: 4 sets
- High row machine: 4 sets
- Hang cleans: 4 sets
- Deadlifts: 4 sets
